PROFESSOR EMERITUS OF MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTING EDUCATION
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CHICHESTER
WEST SUSSEX

Adrian Oldknow has taught mathematics in secondary schools, further education, initial teacher education, in-service teacher education and higher education. He has been involved with national projects on ICT suppoprted mathematics education since 1980. Now retired from teaching he works voluntarily for the Mathematical Association where he chairs the CPD and ICT committees.

Projects/Interests:
  • RM MathsAlive! MathsAlive
    - a government funded R&D project in 2000/1 to produce high quality digital curriculum materials in mathematics for 11-12 year pupils. Subsequently developed in 2001/2 to a full commercial product by Research Machines for the 11-14 mathematics curriculum. Teachers plan lessons using a web-based tool, and access a range of materials to support e.g. Interactive Whiteboards, dynamic geometry, graphical calculators, games, simulations and videos, Word files with lesson plans, notes, tests, homework etc.

  • On-line CPD for secondary mathematics teachers called ESTUICT(CPD)
Enhancing Subject Teaching Using ICT (Continued Professional Development) - again focussed on the 11-14 mathematics curriculum. During 2002/3 the government commissioned groups to set up a website of materials and resources to support secondary school subject departments. The plan was for this to be the basis of a CPD programm involving some face-to-face contact with a tutor and then continued e-mail support. Take up has been much slower than expected and the government is currently reviewing how best to make these materials widely available to teachers.
